But for some brands, there is a size 5 that comes between 5t and 6. If you are a first-time parent, you will be definitely surprised with the two sizes — 5t and 5. Actually, no brand has specified a clearcut difference between 5t and 5 sizes.
One major difference noted is the size around the waist and hip. For 5t, the size around the waist and hip is more than size 5. This is probably to accommodate a diaper. A size 5 may also accommodate a diaper, but there will not be enough room for the baby to move freely. Another difference is that size 5 is longer than 5t. Thus, if your child is out of the diaper, you can go for a size 5.
You can probably adjust the length if the child is shorter. Also, as the child grows, the measurement varies between boys and girls. This change in measurement should also be considered while purchasing clothes. The bottom of size 4 will not be big enough to accommodate a diaper.
Thus, only a fully potty trained toddler can use size 4. Both the sizes are meant for kids in the age group. But they do not have a size 5. While most parents will go for a size 5, which is longer than size 5T, other people will go straight for a 6, which is more significant. Some children will fit comfortably in size 6 while others may need a size 6X, which falls between sizes 6 and 7.
What matters is whether it fits your child. Check out the different brands and their height and weight measurements to find what best suits your child. Slide the measuring tape under their arms around the broadest part of the chest. Do not measure over pants. Your child should stand upright with their feet close together. Preferably they should lean against a flat surface like a wall or door. You have several options, including several European brands. The good news is that many retailers often provide conversion charts on their websites so you can easily convert them.
It would help if you kept in mind that these conversions are approximated and will leave room for error. This way, they will grow into the clothes instead of receiving small garments.
As a parent, you can quickly tell when your toddler needs larger clothes. Enjoy the last stretch of his "baby" clothes lol.
We are all over the place too with dd. It's crazy and I don't know how to size her most of the time. Her clothes end up being too tight or too big or too long. T's take into account diapers, so the 5's supposedly run a bit slimmer in the bum.
I struggle with sizes- just took out summer clothes and ds will be again wearing 3T and yds some 18 or 24 months So we arent even able to get by with 5T yet but could use it for length.
I wish I could help, but I don't get it either. But then at some stores they are okay. Since 2T-5T sizes are US measurements, here is some info if you want to know how this approximately matches up with other countries:. As I mentioned earlier, although there is a standard size for 5T throughout the US, there are sometimes a few little differences between various retailers. At Carters, their clothes are very close to the standard size. Tops for 5T are The 5T size at Walmart is for children who are 42 — Nordstrom seems to cater for a slightly bigger size, as for 5T their clothes are 42 — I wish my wife would understand this.
