I already rescued another dog, and they play well together. Very small meals 6 to 7 hrs apart 3x a day. Raw dog food product is healthy but they should also have chews to keep their teeth and gums healthy too. They are called teacups because of the craze of taking photos of them in teacups to show how small they are.
So now people refer to them as teacup dogs or Chihuahuas. The dog was birthed in a dog mill somewhere down South when purchased by our son, and she definitely shows signs of that: skittish, unfriendly, not engaging with any humans, snarls at the sight of anyone, etc. In addition she appears somewhat deformed, as the arch of her back is curved. We should have made the decision I should have forced the decision! Just a long shot after Google-ing this site, but would anyone out there in the Detroit area be interested?
I really want this dog to get help. Living in a bathtub is no way to live. Would you consider hiring a trainer to help with temperament? Please contact me. I will take daisy!! Seriously I am the type to find happiness in caring for those who are unique as you have described.
I am retired but in fifties so hope to be here a bit. I would love to care for her or any teacup. I know the breed is cruelly bred and they have hard lives. But I loved mine like a child. Especially that the poor dog spends its life in the bathtub??!!! Any rescue team will take her!! Look some up on google!!
Some even come from out of state to rescue dogs in bad situations! Good luck and seek a rescue group please!!!!! Please please have that done before rehoming her. Many people want them to breed. Breeding that small is dangerous. Please check vet references. We own a 2 lb chihuahau and use a kitten collar with a bell so we know where she is and I found a rat harness that fits perfectly for walks. I have 5 chis. My oldest is a handicapped he has a tumor in his brain and his intestion is around his spine.
I spoil them badly if I am going to live my life to the fullest why take that from an animals that have feelings too.
I have only paid for one and he was And I think that was for them to get drugs that is sad. He was abused. I have never told anyone that my chis or as everyone around me says my kids tea cup or any other name besides my kids. I have never gone to a breeder because I feel that if you can show a dog love and compasion then you deserve to have that dog.
So love your animals because they love you. What shots do i have to have for my mini. My little fella Bud was born on Halloween day of He is so full of energy and so fun to be around. All of my friends and family enjoy coming over and playing with him. He is completely rotten and believes he is my child and not my dog. He weighs a little over 4 lbs and his best friend weighs about lbs my uncles mixed breed dog.
I was lucky to get Bud for free. He loves going outside, but will do his business wherever he is when he feels the need to go. Any suggestions? We have our three Chihuahuas on electric blankets. If you treat them with love, caring, etc. I take warm water and squirt them when they bark or try biting.
Love them!!! I am a disabled 58 year female who would love to take in a tiny chihuahuas I have no children to hurt the puppy I am on a fixed income but would give it all the love I could the little on would be treated with lots of love. Thank you for your time. Carol Mathews. I also am looking for a Teacup chihuahua puppie.
I have no clue where to find one to care for n love. If u find one pls let me know ok maybe we can help each other find one. Great info for a puppy on biting!!!! Any and all tid-bits welcomed—my new little girl turns nine weeks tomorrow and she weighs 14 ops.
If so, please share! I found a family female and the folks that had her told me the daddy dog male was really small. They are just tiny chihuahuas. Arthur, if this is happening wth your neighbors dog please call your local animal shelter or authorities. I have the same problem. He had certain issues with his teeth, legs and than this past week it was his brain. We thought it was a ear infection and vet gave me meds for the weekend.
We had to put our sweet baby down yesterday. Please be careful of breeding people and inbreeding. I have a small long haired chi 3lbs 7oz.
She 13 years old and very cute. Because she is show quality and a former show dog, most people do not think she is a chi. As they are unethical. The breed standard is a range up to 6lbs,with lbs being average range. The smaller the dog the more the health concerns. Breeding should be to improve the breed.
So just a quick question Does anyone know by chance what two different types or kinds of chihuahuas are bred to make these type teacup, micro, mini, etc. Why do you want to know??? There are no such animals as teacup Chihuahuas. Breeding such a small Chihuahua is asking for trouble.
You are looking at a large amount of vet bills and having a dog that will be ill and in pain a lot of the time. A high price for a dog that will cost you even more in the long run…. I got my two babies cup and olive for free from my mom when her dog had puppies she is now fixed I love these two with all my heart. They are fun sweet love everyone listen and are the world best cuddlers. I have no idea were I would be without these two girls. They really helped me with my depression and keep me going every day with a big smile on my face.
They are famous in the neighborhood all the kids love them if I take them outside for a walk I am surrounded by at least kids at a time. They are excellent with kids. Shelters are full of them. I can only tell you my experience. She is 2. She never barks, never bites and is actually polite even in the way she gently taps me with her paw when wanting to sit with me. She is extremely affectionate in a soft way. In other words, she never imposes herself or jumps on people.
You just described mine to the T!! Sweetest ever ballsy too. Id get another one when she passes away cause theyre that good of a dog. There are no words to describe our love for her and would pay times what she cost to have her back.
I am interested in a girl preferably beige and white. Other wise black and white mostly white. Not al all interested in a black puppy. They do not sell dogs on here.
Are you prejudiced against all black dogs??? I got my puppy sat called it Harley Davidson. They generally shake unless being cuddled. Mine lived to age We were blessed to have him. He basically passed due to old age, peacefully in our arms at home.
I was surprised at a softball game with mu uncles chihuahua. He is getting a small short haired chi about 5 months old. Joey spends all day in his fenced area while they are at work and kids are at school. They take him out at 8 am 12;30 pm and pm and before bed, to do his business. In most cases, only top winning Champion male dogs are considered to possess the high level of quality needed to qualify as a registered stud.
If your female dog is not registered, an honest breeder would not allow a planned pairing to take place. Therefore, you would want to begin with an AKC, high quality female.
The Chihuahua is prone to needing to have a Cesarean. This can be quite expensive and it can compromise the health of the dog. You must have all needed supplies, you must have time breeders spend countless nights awake, hand feeding little puppies that cannot get milk from the dam and without constant nutrients would quickly develop Hypoglycemia , possibly dealing with post-pregnancy health issues for the dam, and you must have dedication, whether breeding one litter or wanting to become a professional breeder.
Reducing Risk This, undoubtedly, is not the easiest purebred to breed. Size alone creates obstacles. Health to both dam and pups must be the first and more important goal. Age - The proper age to start breeding a Chihuahua female is 2 years minimum with 3 years old being preferred.
Some sources will state 1 or 1. One of the crucial elements for a safe pregnancy and delivery is for the pelvic region and hip width to be fully formed and at maximum width. Young Chi's also do not have strong enough knee and hip formation, which is so important for carrying extra weight.
Females should be retired by the age of 6 at the very most or at any age before this if the veterinarian suggests so. Having a female Chihuahua assessed for breeding capability should be done before any planned pairing.
There are a host of medical reasons why a Chi should be retired early from breeding, including stress on various areas back, knees, hips and a history of difficult deliveries. For males , the proper age is at least 1 year old.
The age at which sperm starts to be produced by male dogs is 7 to 8 months and giving a leeway until the age of 1, ensures the sperm strong enough to reach the female's eggs.
Studs are in their prime from the age of 1. After this time, the sperm will gradually weaken. Teacup Chihuahuas are also prone to a variety of neurological conditions. Many of these conditions are genetic. However, the exact genetic causes are often unknown, so parents cannot be tested before breeding. Some dogs may be completely healthy and have puppies with neurological problems.
These dogs come in two different varieties, as we discussed early. They can be either short-haired or long-haired. They are one of the most low-maintenance long-haired breeds around. A quick brushing session once a week is plenty to keep both varieties clean. A small rubber grooming mitt is often plenty for this purpose, and most dogs prefer these grooming tools over traditional brushes.
Long-haired dogs may need a pin brush to get deeper into their coat, but this is often unnecessary. Teacup Chihuahuas shed small amounts throughout the whole year. Some of them may shed particularly severely in the spring and fall, depending on your local climate.
In this case, you may need to increase your brushing every day for a short time to remove the excessive amounts of hair they may shed. It is recommended to avoid bathing them, as they can chill quickly due to their petite size. Regular brushing is often plenty to keep them clean. If you do need to bathe your dog, be sure to do it in a warm room and dry them thoroughly when you are done.
A tiny, wet dog can quickly become too cold. Their ears may need to be occasionally cleaned, though they are not prone to ear infections. Check them for a build-up of debris whenever you brush your dog and clean them with a cotton ball if necessary. You will also need to trim their nails regularly.
Be very careful, as their nails are tiny, and it is easy to cut them too close. You can visit a groomer to do this task for you if you are not confident in your ability. These dogs are prone to some dental problems, though not as much as other small breeds. For this reason, you must brush their teeth regularly. Otherwise, they can quickly develop expensive dental problems.
Many Chihuahua breeders now offer teacup varieties as well. For this reason, the most miniature puppy may end up being quite large by adulthood. There is no way to tell how large a puppy might grow. Many health conditions can become worse as the dog gets smaller. Plus, the dog may get injured easier if it is far smaller than average. The price often varies based on gender and color. Some coat colors are sought after for pet dogs, which can make these puppies somewhat expensive.
Many breeders of regular Chihuahuas will have smaller-than-average puppies as well. We only recommend these dogs for advanced dog owners. This is due to their unique care needs, such as frequent meals and their high socialization needs.
These dogs require a lot of particular care, and experienced owners can provide this care the easiest. These dogs have a steep learning curve, but they are not sturdy enough to put up with mistakes.
Not feeding a puppy enough can quickly lead to its death in less than hours, for example. Dropping a puppy can cause severe and life-threatening injuries.
For a new owner, all of these needs can quickly become stressful, especially when small mistakes can lead to severe injuries. Teacup Chihuahuas are tiny, which also makes them quite cute. However, they are also very delicate dogs due to their smaller size. They are more prone to certain health conditions, most of which are caused by their small size or are genetic. Their socialization and training needs are pretty high.
It is challenging to potty-train them as their bladders are pretty small. They are often fearful and aloof when it comes to strangers and other dogs. Protective aggression and separation anxiety is not uncommon. These dogs need specialized care to thrive. Otherwise, they can develop health conditions and become aggressive. When taken care of, though, they can be great companions that can fit in your pocket. We recommend these dogs for those that spend a lot of time at home and want a dog that will be truly devoted to them — even if it means dedicating a bit extra time and work to their puppy.
